Beauty From Ashes™ Ministries, Inc. is one of the nation’s first survivor-led community service agencies. Founded by Julie Shematz, it began with her reaching out to individuals in adult entertainment establishments in 2002, following a radical faith conversion. In 2005, it became a 501(c)3, public charity whose mission is to prevent, reach and restore victims of sexual abuse, exploitation and trafficking, and their National Strip Club Outreach Training launched in Indianapolis, IN. This curriculum, due to a United States Department of Human Services capacity building grant, was developed into a comprehensive anti-human trafficking; outreach and aftercare training, which was officially approved and implemented by The Salvation Army in 2014.

In 2010, while in graduate school, Julie began developing a trauma-informed, equine and art-assisted therapy and learning program for Beauty From Ashes™ Ministries. Thanks to local, state, and federal community partnerships, specialized services have been provided to local, national and international survivors, as well as, law enforcement, first responders, medical professionals, veterans, pregnancy centers, incarcerated female minors and vulnerable populations.

Beauty From Ashes™ Ministries, 100% volunteer-driven, continues to serve the community with free of charge mental health counseling, mentoring, and retreats for high risk youth and survivors of abuse.
